Designing out Trachoma – Shifting WASH Behaviors Using Behavioral Nudges

ThinkPlace partnered with SightSavers to deliver a large multi-country program to rapidly understand the behavioral drivers of key WASH behaviors related to Trachoma. This infectious tropical disease causes roughening of the inner surface of the eyelids.

ThinkPlace designed ‘My Clean, Beautiful Family’ a prototype that anchored hand and face washing sensitization with emotive drivers. ThinkPlace used family portraits taken immediately after face washing – next to mirrors. By linking the ‘clean’ faces in the portraits juxtaposed to the individual’s face in the mirror, unwashed, the prototype introduced a trigger for daily face-washing
